This is the method i have been using to remove a drywall ceiling before having to replace it with new drywall. First I go around the perimeter and cut through the cornice with my new Hilti Drywall Cut Out Tool . That way when I pull the ceiling down the entire top half of the cornice comes with it. Next i release the drywall from around any cables or anything that can pull or disturb anything i dont want to damage. Next i create a space for myself in the corner once i remove a bit of the drywall thats above and around me in case the whole ceiling collapses, and I’m laying under a pile of rubble until the end of the day till its cleaned up and im found. then just pull it down taking extra care of windows and walls. Its best to pull it down in large peices as although heavey they are much quicker to dispose of in one go.
