This is how you successfully finish butt joints in drywall plasterboard. The most important rule is – Before you mix your mud its important you start off with a completely flat surface over both sheets where they “butt”. Where possible it is recommended that full length sheets are used to minimise butt joints at sheet ends. Sheets should be butted neatly together, but not forced. Butt Joints should be staggered and located on/between different framing members. Where butt joints are to be formed between framing, prepare back-blocking.
